Baroque Rome
Spanish Steps, Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona Walking Tour
Walking tour around the most famous monuments of Rome
Tour 3 hours
The best time for the Rome baroque tour is in the afternoon, following a good lunch in a local restaurant. We start our visit at the enchanting Trevi Fountain, with its majestic sculpture of Neptune poised on a sea shell led by two sea horses and flanked by two tritons.
Then we walk for 10 minutes to the Spanish Steps , where the Palazzo of the Propaganda Fide by Borromini and Bernini is one of the finest examples of baroque architecture in Rome. In the center of the piazza there is the famous fountain called “Barcaccia” by Gianlorenzo Bernini and his father Pietro Bernini. This work of art recalls the Tiber River when it flooded the city of Rome in the 16th century. Leaving the Spanish Steps behind us, we continue our walk long the Via dei Condotti, where famous Italian fashion designers have their exclusive shops including Gucci, Bulgari and Prada. In this street, we’ll take time to have a coffee in the famous Caffe Greco where Ernest Hemingway and James Joyce used to drink. After Via dei Condotti, we walk to the Pantheon, an imposing ancient Roman temple built in the 2nd century AD by Hadrian. After visiting the Pantheon, we walk to Piazza Navona. On the way to this beautiful site, we will visit the church of San Luis of the French where there are important paintings by Caravaggio. In Piazza Navona, we can enjoy the fantastic view of the fountain of the Four Rivers by Bernini and St. Agnes’s church by Borromini.
